Smith County officials met with about 60 people from the northern portions of Smith County Thursday evening to listen to their road concerns at the second Road and Bridge Strategic Planning Citizen Input Meeting. Smith County Judge Nathaniel Moran and Commissioners Terry Phillips and JoAnn Hampton, as well as County Engineer Frank Davis, hosted the second of several citizen input meetings planned throughout the county to gather residents’ opinions to develop a long-term road plan. more
Work on Farm-to-Market Road 344 at the Bell Branch Creek bridge, approximately one mile west of State Highway 110, between Bullard and Whitehouse, has officially been completed. The concrete work on this project was used to replace the culvert. The job also included restoring the pavement. more
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is asking for the public’s help in solving the 2002 murder of Dennis Matlock and an increased reward of up to $6,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of those responsible, if the tip is received before next month’s featured case is announced. more

A Bullard man was indicted recently on a charge of Sexual Assault of a Child after allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl. An arrest warrant was issued for Cory Jacob Caraway, 25, of Bullard, by 114th District Judge Christi Kennedy on Monday, April 17, with a second degree felony charge of Sexual Assault of a Child, citing Penal Code 22.011 (a) (2), which states that the accused person intentionally or knowingly commits an act of sexual assault on a child (under the age of 17) through various means. more

While most school-aged children are taking it easy at home during the months of summer vacation, a total of 15 Boy Scouts representing Troop No. 366 were camping in tents in the June while attending the Trevor Rees Jones Scout Camp, near Athens. The Scouts attended the camp for a week, allowing the Troop to have fun together, learn life skills, and even tempt fate by rappelling down a 30-foot tower, among other activities afforded to them during the camp adventure. more
