The Bullard Rotary Club announced a change in the schedule to its upcoming fourth annual golf tournament event, to be held Monday, Oct. 9, at Eagle’s Bluff Country Club, located at 700 N. Eagle’s Bluff Blvd. Originally scheduled to feature two flights for players hitting the links in support of the Bullard Rotary Club, the tournament will now feature just an afternoon flight, with registration beginning at 10:30 a.m. with a lunch served at 11:30 a.m. and a 1 p.m. tournament shotgun start. more
Four Smith County firefighters recently paid tribute to victims of September 11, 2001 by participating in the Dallas 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb, held at the Renaissance Tower in Dallas on Saturday, Sept. 9. The annual event is a tribute to first responders who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. Each year, thousands of people gather in downtown Dallas to be a part of the incredibly symbolic and intensely physical tradition of stepping up to honor the fallen. Smith County Fire Marshal Connie McCoy-Wasson recognized the men for their efforts during the regularly scheduled meeting of the Smith County Commissioners Court on Tuesday, Sept. 26. more
A 35-year-old Flint man pleaded guilty to arson and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and was sentenced to 20 years in prison in September, according to Smith County Public Information Officer Casey Murphy. more
A sitting member of the Smith County Commissioners Court was indicted by a Grand Jury earlier this month, stemming from an April incident at her church. Commissioner JoAnn Hampton, 60, currently representing Smith County Precinct 4, was indicted Thursday, Sept. 7 on one count of Injury to a Child/Elderly/Disabled Criminal Negligence after having allegedly assaulted a woman inside of a church in April. more
