Due to the rainy weather in and around the city of Bullard earlier this week, two of the city’s annual Christmas traditions have been rescheduled. Organizers now have more time to prepare, as the second annual Bullard Christmas Kick-Off and annual Bullard Christmas Parade are now slated for Wednesday, Dec. 6, in the downtown Bullard area. more
Two local residents were booked into the Smith County Jail last week after authorities found drugs and counterfeit money inside of their truck after receiving a call reporting suspicious persons. Sgt. Darrell Coslin with the Smith County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that deputies arrested Robert Paul Ford, Jr., 35, and Valerie Ann Grunden, 22, both of Tyler, on Wednesday, Nov. 29 after a local business owner called the department to report a suspicious vehicle parked off the road in the 17700 block of FM 2493 in Flint. more
Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced recently that he will send cities, counties, transit systems, and special purpose taxing districts a total of $774.9 million in local sales tax allocations for the month of November. The amount released by Hegar’s office represents an increase of five percent increase from the sales tax allocations released in November 2016. The October sales tax allocations report showed a slight dip in monies received by the city of Bullard, while also reporting increases for Cherokee County and Smith County. more
Dozens of Smith County school children earned awards for an art contest Monday, November 20, at the annual Fire Prevention Awards Ceremony. Colorful art pieces, with the theme of “Every Second Counts, Plan 2 Ways Out,” lined the walls of a room in the Tyler Rose Garden. Students of Arp, Bullard, Brook Hill, Chapel Hill, Christian Heritage, Jackson Elementary, Lindale, Troup, and Whitehouse received awards for their artwork. more
Texans age 65 or older, as well as those who are disabled and are disabled veterans, may postpone paying delinquent and current property taxes on their homes by taking advantage of an option called “tax deferral” by signing an affidavit at the Smith County Appraisal District office. more
On Thursday, Nov. 30, in the 2nd Judicial Court of Cherokee County, Texas, a jury of twelve found Shonquea Danielle Thirkill guilty of Endangering a Child and gave her the maximum sentences allowed by law. Thirkill was found guilty of having drugs at her house, including methanphetimine, crack cocaine, and marijuana, as well as one large chunk of crack cocaine that was with easy reach of several young children who were staying at her house. more
An educational program that once called the city of Bullard home is attempting to make a comeback, as the newly restructured Bullard 4-H Club is currently seeking new members. “We’re really excited we had the opportunity to come back in and restart the Bullard 4-H Club, said James Holloway, Bullard 4-H Club advisor. “I believe that through 4-H, students are able to learn and participate in a number of activities focused on STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). The club allows more depth in the Bullard community by interacting in certain activities they may be interested in.” more
