Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar recently revised the Certification Revenue Estimate (CRE), announcing better than expected revenue growth in fiscal 2018 and an improved economic outlook for fiscal 2019. In a letter sent Wednesday, July 11 to state leadership, Hegar said the state will have $110.17 billion in General Revenue-Related (GR-R) funds available for general purpose spending for the 2018-19 biennium, resulting in a projected fiscal 2019 ending balance of $2.67 billion, an increase from the $94 million ending balance projected in the October 2017 CRE. more

Approximately 200 young children and parents were on hand to greet special visitors last week, as animals from Tyler’s Caldwell Zoo stopped by for an event coinciding with the library’s Summer Reading Program schedule Tuesday, July 10. With standing room only inside of the library’s largest room, an employee from Caldwell Zoo was on hand to help educate children about various animals, bringing along a ferret and a bearded lizard for attendees to interact with. more
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after the body of a Tyler man was discovered inside of a vehicle last week. According to a release from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department, officers received a call reporting a possible deceased person located in a vehicle on County Road 3306, west of Jacksonville, Friday, July 6. The release identified the deceased as a white male, who was later determined to be Olen John Defoore, 38, of Tyler. more
Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar recently announced that state sales tax revenue totaled $2.77 billion in the month of June, 13.7 percent more than in June 2017. “Sales tax revenue increased for almost all major economic sectors,” Hegar said. “The strong revenue growth was led by collections from the mining and manufacturing sectors. The construction, wholesale and retail trade sectors also saw strong gains.” more
