The Bullard Area Chamber of Commerce recently announced the winners of the organization’s 2017 annual patriotic scholarship essay competition. The BACC Red, White, and Blue Patriotism Essay Competition application process began in the month of October. The purpose of the competition is to “honor American veterans and the sacrifices they have made to ensure freedom.” more
The Smith County Commissioners Court received its first monthly update Tuesday, Jan. 9, on the $39.5 million bond package to improve county roads. Smith County Engineer Frank Davis said he plans to provide a monthly update about the bond projects to keep citizens informed about the status of projects under construction, as well as upcoming projects. Smith County voters voted to approve the county’s $39.5 million road bond proposal, passing the measure with 73 percent of the vote Tuesday, Nov. 7, according to unofficial voting totals. more
Runner registration is expected to sell out for fifth annual FRESH 15, which includes a 15K, 5K and kids’ 1K race. On Tuesday, Aug. 15, the first called Special Session of the 85th Texas Legislature came to a end. The Special Session brought about significant legislation to benefit public schools in Texas, according to "The House and Senate came together to provide relief and necessary funding for our school districts and retired teachers," said Nichols. "Right before the Special, I met with superintendents, retired teachers and educators from across Senate District 3 to discuss what they wanted me to focus on during this session. The passing of House Bill 21, which I was proud to support, addresses many of their issues." more
