Members of The Brook Hill School community gathered to honor one of their own, as well as hear an encouraging message from a renowned Christian author and celebrate the school’s 20th year history, at the ninth annual Founder’s Day Celebration event, held Monday, Oct. 9. To celebrate their impact on the lives of student and on the campus at The Brook Hill School, the school’s Board of Directors selected to honor Headmaster Rod Fletcher, and his wife, Heather, with the school’s 2017 Guardian Award. more
The man accused of kidnapping a 10-year-old Tyler girl from a church in Bullard almost a year ago and causing her death made an appearance in front of a judge inside the Smith County Courthouse last week. On Tuesday, Oct. 10, a pre-trial hearing for Gustavo Zavala-Garcia was held with both prosecutors and Zavala-Garcia’s defense team before the 241st District Court of Judge Jack Skeen Jr. inside the Smith County Court House in Tyler. more
One of East Texas’s most renowned lakes, used by many as an escape for swimming, boating, and fishing, has now been invaded and infested by an invasive plant. According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, giant salvinia (Salvinia molesta), a floating fern native of southern Brazil, has been found near the rear of Saline Bay, past the bridge located on Farm-to-Market Rd. 344. more
Maddie Anthony and Macguire Rose, two senior students at The Brook Hill School, were crowned as the 2017 Brook Hill Homecoming Queen and King, respectively, during a ceremony held prior to the Brook Hill Guard varsity football team’s Homecoming district contest against the Bishop T.K. Gorman Crusaders Friday, Oct. 13, at Herrington Stadium. more
The Bullard High School Theatre Department is inviting everyone out for a good scare, as the organization will put on and host a Halloween-themed event, “The House of Torment,” slated for 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at the BHS campus. more
The City of Bullard will come alive with patriotic spirit, as well as be painted in a shade of red, white, and blue, as the Bullard Area Chamber of Commerce prepares to host the 18th annual BACC Red, White, and Blue Festival Saturday, Nov. 4, in downtown Bullard. “We’re very excited for the Red, White, and Blue Festival,” said Katie Clarkston, BACC member and event planner. “This is my third or fourth year to be a part of the Red, White, and Blue Committee. The event is growing in a number of different way, and we hope that it will continue to be a family fun event, weather permitting, as always.” more

You can help keep a child age 0-18 years warm this winter by donating a new or gently used coat. People Attempting To Help (PATH) kicked off their annual Coats for Kids drive on Oct. 1. New and gently used coats can be dropped off at the following locations: Comet Cleaners, Hart’s Cleaners, Progress Cleaners, Regency Cleaners, Shannon’s Cleaners, The Cleaning Company, VIP Cleaners, Edward Jones – Whitehouse and PATH. more
