Dozens of Smith County school children earned awards for an art contest Monday, November 20, at the annual Fire Prevention Awards Ceremony. Colorful art pieces, with the theme of “Every Second Counts, Plan 2 Ways Out,” lined the walls of a room in the Tyler Rose Garden. Students of Arp, Bullard, Brook Hill, Chapel Hill, Christian Heritage, Jackson Elementary, Lindale, Troup, and Whitehouse received awards for their artwork. more

On Thursday, Nov. 30, in the 2nd Judicial Court of Cherokee County, Texas, a jury of twelve found Shonquea Danielle Thirkill guilty of Endangering a Child and gave her the maximum sentences allowed by law. Thirkill was found guilty of having drugs at her house, including methanphetimine, crack cocaine, and marijuana, as well as one large chunk of crack cocaine that was with easy reach of several young children who were staying at her house. more
An educational program that once called the city of Bullard home is attempting to make a comeback, as the newly restructured Bullard 4-H Club is currently seeking new members. “We’re really excited we had the opportunity to come back in and restart the Bullard 4-H Club, said James Holloway, Bullard 4-H Club advisor. “I believe that through 4-H, students are able to learn and participate in a number of activities focused on STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). The club allows more depth in the Bullard community by interacting in certain activities they may be interested in.” more
A member of the Cherokee County Commissioners Court who was previously under investigation by the Texas Rangers was deemed innocent by a grand jury. Cherokee County Commissioner Byron Underwood (Precinct 4) faced scrutiny since a personal item was noticed on his expense report submitted during a Commissioners Court meeting in July. more
The spirit of Christmas is on its way back to the streets of downtown Bullard, as the annual Bullard Christmas Parade and third annual Bullard Christmas Kickoff events will take place Monday, Dec. 4, hosted by the City of Bullard and Bullard Area Chamber of Commerce. more
Members of the Bullard Rotary Club were able to make the Thanksgiving holiday a special one for several Bullard residents, as the organization took part in an annual tradition of passing out Thanksgiving turkey dinners. This year, a number of the organization’s members passed out the meals to Bullard families on Wednesday, Nov. 22, at the Bullard Elementary School campus, while other members traveled to deliver the meals at residences around the city. more
