On Saturday, March 3, the Texas State Rifle Association (TSRA) presented State Senator Robert Nichols (R-Jacksonville) with the Doc Brown Legislator of the Year Award. In the 85th Texas Legislative Session, Nichols authored and passed Senate Bill 16, which lowered License to Carry fees in Texas. Gov. Greg Abbott signed the bill into law in the summer of 2017. more

The jury trial for a former coach accused of enticing a player on his team in 2015 is expected to begin in a Smith County Courtroom next week. According to Paul Clarkston, Criminal Coordinator and Court Administrator for Smith County Court at Law 2, a continuance was granted by Judge Randall Rogers in the trial of Ricky Eugene Clements, 63, after a hearing on Monday, Feb. 5, and is now expected to begin 9 a.m. Monday, March 19. more
