The Bullard Area Chamber of Commerce has opened its annual patriotic scholarship essay competition. The BACC Red, White, and Blue Patriotism Essay Competition application process began Wednesday, Sept. 14. The purpose of the competition is to honor American veterans and the sacrifices they have made to ensure freedom. more

The newly created Regional First Responder Service Award is designed to honor first responders who have rendered extraordinary service while performing their duties as a peace officer, fire fighter, telecommunicator or EMS provider within the East Texas Region. more
Smith County voters who cannot obtain one of the seven approved forms of photo identification now have additional options at the polls, Smith County Elections Administrator Karen Nelson announced. “My office is working to make sure all the voters in Smith County are ready to cast a ballot,” Nelson said. “These new options for voters who cannot obtain photo ID are currently in place and will be used in the November Election.” more
