Smith County residents will be able to celebrate Memorial Day with a bang again this year by purchasing and igniting fireworks. Earlier this month, Smith County Commissioners voted to approve an order authorizing fireworks sales from Wednesday, May 23 through Monday, May 28. The 84th Texas Legislature passed House Bill 1150, authorizing three additional periods that fireworks may be sold to the public as long as the Commissioners Courts in each county issues an order authorizing such sales each year. more

A Bullard teenager was killed, and four others were injured, after a rollover accident in North Central Texas last weekend. According to reports, the accident occurred around 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12, on Interstate 35 near mile marker 348, south of the city of West, causing traffic to be backed up for hours. more
The city of Bullard was filled with patriotic pride and American freedom, as members of the East Texas community paid tribute to true American heroes at the 2018 East Texas Salute event, held Saturday, May 12, on the grounds of the Brook Hill Upper School and the American Freedom Museum. The event this year, which drew an estimated attendance of 6,500-7,000, was to celebrate and honor veterans of the Vietnam War, a group of American heroes that were not given the honor they deserved when they returned from the battlefield. more
The Brook Hill School recently announced the names of the students who will serve as the school’s valedictorian and salutatorian at the school’s upcoming graduation ceremony, to be held Saturday, May 19.
