The jury trial for a former coach accused of enticing a player on his team in 2015 is expected to begin in a Smith County Courtroom next week. The trial of Ricky Eugene Clements, 63, also known as “Papa Ricky” to students at The Brook Hill School and in the community, was originally scheduled to begin in November 2017, but was delayed after a motion to delay was granted by Judge Randall Rogers in the Smith County Court at Law No. 2. The trial is now expected to begin on Monday, Feb. 5. more
The Bullard High School Choral Department continues to experience success after success at the program’s recent singing competitions, as the choir took a total of 17 qualifying students to compete for chairs in the Texas Music Educators Association’s Small School All State Choir. A program record total of 17 singers from BHS advanced to the upcoming All-Area competition, making up over 50 percent of the entire number of singers advancing from Region 21, leaving the rest of the schools in Region 21 with just 15 vacancies. more
An event sponsored by the Bullard High School athletic trainers will now be rescheduled due to wintry weather forcing the cancelation of school on the previously scheduled date. Students at Bullard High School will now have the opportunity to participate in an event aimed at alerting them and their parents to any possible hidden heart conditions at a Cardiovascular Testing event 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, at the BHS Field House. more
The Bullard Baseball and Softball Association will host the final two sign-up events for roster spots for teams playing in the upcoming 2018 season this week. The organization will host regular registration events from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, as well as 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, inside the Bullard Middle School cafeteria. more
East Texas Communities Foundation is currently accepting applications from East Texas students for a number of scholarships that may benefit local Bullard ISD, The Brook Hill School, and East Texas seniors. All applications and supporting documents must be submitted online. A student may apply for every scholarship for which he or she meets the eligibility requirements. Applicants should complete a unique application for each scholarship. more
Tyler Junior College recently recognized a total of 1,515 students named to the school’s President’s and Dean’s Lists for their academic excellence during the fall 2017 semester. The TJC President’s List honored a total of 517 students who completed a minimum of 12 hours of college-level courses with a 4.0 grade-point average. more
Several unique student handmade projects, as well as merchandise from local business and student-labor work groups, will be up for bids this weekend, as the Bullard FFA Labor and Merchandise Auction is scheduled to hit the auction block Saturday, Jan. 27, inside the Bullard Elementary School Cafeteria. The FFA organization will auction off many of the handmade student projects created by Bullard FFA members this school year. more
When it comes to protecting students and faculty at The Brook Hill School, there is no task of greater importance. “We take the safety of students and staff very seriously here at Brook Hill,” said Bobby Brasher, Director of Student and Campus Security. “While they are young, we parents do whatever we can to make sure they are safe; however, they will grow up and venture out into the world on their own, and we want to be sure they are prepared as much as possible to manage their own safety.” more
