Due to the rainy weather in and around the city of Bullard earlier this week, two of the city’s annual Christmas traditions have been rescheduled.
Organizers now have more time to prepare, as the second annual Bullard Christmas Kick-Off and annual Bullard Christmas Parade are now slated for Wednesday, Dec. 6, in the downtown Bullard area.
“Due to the weather forecast, we are rescheduling the Christmas Kickoff and Christmas Parade, originally scheduled for Monday, Dec. 4, to now Wednesday Dec. 6,” said Chelci Amburgy, City of Bullard Director of Public Relations and Communications. “All events are still scheduled at the same previous times and all activities will remain the same. We apologize for the last minute notification, and we hope that everyone can still come out and celebrate Christmas as a community. Thank you for your patience throughout this process, and we will see everyone on Wednesday.”
The first event of the evening will be the third annual Bullard Christmas Kickoff, held from 3-9 p.m., throughout the downtown Bullard area.
Featured in this year’s Bullard Christmas Kickoff will be a vendor bazaar area called “Mistletoe Market,” where community members can register prior to the event to sell merchandise and offer attendees the chance to participate in a holiday activity.
In addition, local businesses, community organizations, and school organizations are invited to compete in the annual Christmas Tree Decorating Contest.
Entrees in the Christmas Tree Decorating Contest must be set up at a designated area along the Bullard “four-way” until the day of the event, and must be taken down by Monday, Dec. 29.
Trees for the Bullard Christmas Kickoff Christmas Tree Decorating Contest must be artificial and at least six-feet tall. They must have lights and weather friendly decorations, meaning no paper, glass or porcelain decorations. Trees will need to be tied down with wire or zip ties, while ornaments will need to be twist tied to branches on trees.
Prizes will be given for trees winning the designations of Most Original, Most Traditional, Most Religious, Most Kid Friendly, and Most Beautiful.
For more information about the Christmas Tree Decorating Contest, contact Patty Taylor or Michelle Holcomb at (903) 894-8141.
Attendees to the event will also be able to visit Bullard Wonderland for fun games and activities, including a snow hill, snowball play area, bounce houses, and zip line.
In order to participate in the Bullard Wonderland events, participants must be wearing a free wristband, which they will receive by filling out a waiver at the event or by submitting the waiver online at www.bullardtexas.net and picking up wristbands ahead of time at Bullard City Hall between 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. until Wednesday, Dec. 4, or at the designated spot during the event.
During the third annual Bullard Christmas Kickoff celebration, a “special guest” will be available for free photographs with children and children-at-heart inside of The North Pole, with traditional favorites such as cookies and hot chocolate also included.
Digital copies of pictures inside of The North Pole will be free, while prints will be available for a small fee.
“The City of Bullard is ecstatic to be hosting the third annual Christmas Kickoff,” said Amburgy. “With the continued growth that we have seen this event take, we are looking forward to providing yet another fun, and family oriented event for the East Texas Community, in the holiday spirit. We are hoping that all of the boys and girls have not been naughty, but instead been nice, because we have a surprise treat for them, that will be a real delight. We look forward to seeing everyone there to kick off this joyous holiday season as a community.”
The streets of downtown Bullard will also be filled with the Christmas spirit, as the Bullard Area Chamber of Commerce will host the annual Christmas Parade, beginning at 6 p.m.
This year’s parade will feature several school organizations and clubs from Bullard Independent School District and The Brook Hill School, as well as local church groups and citywide organizations and entities, such as the Bullard Fire and Police Departments.
BACC welcomes all entries from the community, including service organizations, military organizations, school organizations, as well as marching groups, color guards, equestrians, and floats. No semi trucks, dump trucks, or recreational vehicle floats will be permitted. With the parade held at night, appropriate lighting is expected on all floats.
The parade will begin at Panther Crossing and travel along School House Rd. and FM 344, before passing City Hall on Phillips St. and end on Tyler St.
Children on the floats will unload from the floats in front of City Hall, while floats will continue to Tyler St., turning right onto Rather St., and park in the parking lot of Bullard First United Methodist Church.
Attendees will also have the chance to catch a rare glimpse of the “special guest” from the Christmas Kickoff, who is extremely busy-busy around the holiday season, but always seems to pay a visit to Bullard for the Christmas parade. According to reports, the “special guest” will be making a list and checking it twice, in an effort to find out who’s naughty and nice.
Registered parade participants are asked to be at BMS one hour before the parade begins. The order of the parade is predetermined by the BACC Parade Committee and will be assigned at check-in. Parade entry forms can be found at www.bullardtexas.net.

“We are so excited to now have the public relations and communications department at the City of Bullard to be able to have this as a city event, and to partner with BACC to put on this event and the parade,” said Amburgy. “This year will be full of lots of fun activities, food, Santa, hot chocolate, vendors, a photo booth, and of course, the amazing parade. Mark your calendars because this is an event that you will not want to miss.”
Currently, the City of Bullard is still looking for sponsors for the events. Also, volunteers and schools groups looking to fulfill community service hours are encouraged to sign up to volunteer.
