Brook Hill golf teams starts spring semester with strong swings in recent tournaments

The Brook Hill Guard and Lady Guard varsity golf teams have swung back into action, as both teams have competed in a number of invitational golf tournaments around the East Texas area throughout the spring semester.

Brook Hill Guard:

Beginning the new semester of golf action, the Brook Hill Guard varsity golf team competed at the Athens Invitational Golf Tournament, held Monday, Jan. 29, at Athens Country Club.

The Guard had no trouble locating the greens and fairways in action at the Athens Invitational Golf Tournament, finishing at the top of the rankings in first place with a score of 345.

Leading the attack for the Guard boys golf team at the event was the duo of Jack Berry and Greg Goates, carding scores of 84 each.

Other members of the Guard varsity golf team competing at the Athens Invitational Golf Tournament included Logan Mimms, with a score of 88; Colton Drennan, with a score of 89; and Cole Overbeek, with a score of 111.

The second event of the spring semester for the Guard varsity golf team was the Quitman Invitational Golf Tournament, held Monday, Feb. 12, at Lake Fork Golf Course.

Once again, the Guard team was able to prove itself of being one of the top teams at the event, claiming a first place team finish.

Individual finishes for the Brook Hill boys varsity golf team at the Quitman Invitational Golf Tournament were unavailable.

Brook Hill them attended and participated in the Jacksonville Invitational Golf Tournament, held Monday, Feb. 19, at Cherokee Ranch Country Club.

The field of strong competitors all fell short of stopping the Brook Hill team from marching their way to a strong finish, as the Guard placed first as a team with a team total score of 320.

Berry led the charge for the Guard at the Jacksonville Invitational Golf Tournament, finishing as the second place medalist with a score of 77.

Other members of the Brook Hill boys golf team competing at the Jacksonville Invitational Golf Tournament included Hood Taylor, with a score of 79; Mimms, with a score of 80; Goates, with a score of 84; and Drennan, with a score of 86.

The most recent event for the Guard varsity golf team was the Brook Hill Spring Golf Classic, held Monday, Feb. 26, at Eagles Bluff Country Club in Bullard.

The Guard battled well as the hosts of the event, finishing as the third place team with a team total score of 329.

Drennan and Goates were the leaders of the team at the Brook Hill Spring Golf Classic, finishing tied for eighth place with a score of 78 and in 10th place with a score of 79, respectively.

The Brook Hill Guard varsity golf team will next compete at the All Saints Invitational Golf Tournament, to be held Monday, March 26, at the Cascades in Tyler.

Brook Hill Lady Guard:

The Brook Hill Lady Guard varsity golf team has also found success on the greens this semester, competing in a number of tournaments and bringing home several team and individual finishes and awards.

The first tournament for the Lady Guard in 2018 was the Athens Invitational Golf Tournament, held Monday, Jan. 29, at Athens Country Club.

In the event, the Lady Guard proved to have sure swings and precise putts, as the team went on to claim a first place team finish with a score of 417.

Leading the way for Brook Hill on the course at the Athens Invitational Golf Tournament was Emma French, finishing as the first place individual medalist with a score of 84.

Other members of the Lady Guard varsity golf team competing at the Athens Invitational Golf Tournament included Bailea Mapes, with a score of 94; Kaylee Lambert, with a score of 117; Olivia Kim, with a score of 122; and Sydney McNeel, with a score of 123.

Following the first place team finish at Athens, the Brook Hill girls golf team returned home to host the Brook Hill Invitational Golf Tournament, held Monday, Feb. 5, at Eagles Bluff Country Club in Bullard.

The Lady Guard team was able to defend their home turf at the Brook Hill Invitational Golf Tournament, securing their second straight first place team finish with a score of 400.

French once again was the leader for Brook Hill in the team’s second tournament of the semester, finishing in second place individually with a score of 82.

Other members of the Lady Guard varsity golf team competing at the Brook Hill Invitational Golf Tournament included Mapes, with a score of 103; Morgan Carpenter, with a score of 105; Lambert, with a score of 110; and Kim, with a score of 114.

The Brook Hill Lady Guard varsity golf team then competed at the Bullard Invitational Golf Tournament, held Wednesday, Feb. 14, at Emerald Bay Country Club in Bullard.

Brook Hill competed well against the tough competition at the Bullard Invitational Golf Tournament, finishing in fifth place as a team.

Individual finishes for the Lady Guard varsity golf team at the Bullard Invitational Golf Tournament were unavailable.

The fourth tournament participated in by the Brook Hill girls golf team was the Jacksonville Invitational Golf Tournament, held Monday, Feb. 19, at Cherokee Ranch Country Club.

Brook Hill’s strong play at the event allowed the team to march to the top of the standings, finishing in second place overall.

French collected her third medal of the semester by finishing the Jacksonville Invitational Golf Tournament as the first place medalist with a score of 79.

Other members of the Lady Guard varsity golf team competing at the event included Carpenter, with a score of 115; Lambert, with a score of 116; McNeel, with a score of 116; and Morgan Maddox, with a score of 119.

The Brook Hill Lady Guard varsity golf team will compete next at the Canton Invitational Golf Tournament, to be held Tuesday, March 20, at Van Zandt Country Club, followed by the State Preview event, slated for Monday, March 26, in Killeen.
