Brook Hill sluggers claim district victory by conquering Gorman Crusaders, 16-2

The Brook Hill Guard varsity baseball team was back on the field last week, playing the part of host for their lone district contest of the week Wednesday, April 12, against the Bishop T.K. Gorman Crusaders at Brook Hill’s Herrington Field. 

The visiting Crusaders were able to attack offensively first in the contest, scoring a total of two runs in the first inning of play. The Guard answered the hot start by the Crusaders during their half of the second inning, stringing together several key at-bats to collect a total of six runs. 

Brook Hill’s strong offensive spilled over into the third and fourth innings against the Crusaders, swinging their heavy bats to amass a total of four runs and six runs, respectively, all the while using their strong defensive play to hold the bats of the Crusaders at bay. 

At the end of the fifth inning, the Guard’s strong day at the plate allowed Brook Hill to claim the victory over Bishop Gorman, 16-2. 

Brooks Parham was the leader for the Guard at the plate against the Crusaders, turning in a perfect 3-3 performance, including a double, collecting a total of four runs batted in. 

Other significant contributors for the Guard against the Crusaders included Seth Moss, going 2-3, including a double, with four RBIs; Josh Jenkins, going 2-4, including a home run, with two RBIs; Reid Hill, going 2-4 with two RBIs; Logan Langford, going 2-2, including two doubles, with one RBI: Logan Fitzgerald, going 0-1 with one RBI; Miguel Vega, going 1-4, including a double; and Campbell Fletcher, going 1-3. 

On the mound, Langford was credited with the victory for the Guard against the Crusaders, allowing one hit and two runs, while striking out six and walking four, in three innings of work. 

Vega saw action as a relief pitcher in the contest, allowing not hits and no runs, while striking four, in two innings of pitching. 

With a 1-0 record in district play last week, the Brook Hill Guard varsity baseball team currently stands with an overall record of 13-6, 5-1 in district play. 

Next week: Tuesday, April 18 – Brook Hill at All Saints; Friday, April 21 – Brook Hill vs. All Saints.
