The Brook Hill School’s next event coinciding with the school’s 20th anniversary celebration will feature a rush of orange spirit, as the inaugural Brook Hill Orange Rush Family Fun Run is slated for 8:30 a.m. Saturday, April 22, on the grounds of the school.
“This event is a part of continuing our 20th year celebration,” said Sara Scarborough, Brook Hill Associate Director of Special Events. “We’ve had great success with our previous events. This is just another event that incorporates not only the Brook Hill family, but also the Bullard, Tyler, and East Texas communities.”
The first event scheduled for the inaugural Brook Hill Orange Rush Family Fun Run will be the Kids Dash for ages 12 and under at 8:30 a.m.
The Kids Dash will be broken down into age groups, with young racers ages three through five competing on a 25 yard course, as well as ages six through eight racing on a 50 yard course and ages nine through 12 competing on a 100 yard course. Parents for the younger children will be allowed to “dash” with their child.
After the Kids Dash races, the Brook Hill Orange Rush Family Fun Run will then transition into a 5K race for all ages, to begin at 9 a.m.
The route for the Brook Hill Orange Rush Family Fun Run has yet to be announced, but will be made available to participants as the event approaches.
Currently, registration costs for the Brook Hill Orange Rush Family Fun Run 5K race will be $35 until Friday, April 21, while race day registration will cost $40. Group registration is also available at the event, saving groups $5 for each group consisting of five to 10 runners.
According to Scarborough, if children between the ages of three and 12 wish to also participate in the 5K, they may do so at no extra charge. However, if parents would like for the child runner to have chip timing for the 5K race, they must register the child for both the Kids Dash and the 5K race which will cost a registration fee of $15. Parents are welcomed to participate in the event with their children in strollers.
Brook Hill has also released several rules for the Brook Hill Orange Rush Family Fun Run, including no dogs allowed, as well as no skating, cycling, or bicycles. For those concerned about concessions, water and fruit will be provided for participants at no charge, while vendors and sponsors will provide additional refreshment at various prices.
Also at the Brook Hill Orange Rush Family Fun Run will be in opportunity for local vendors and organizations to promote their business or spread awareness about healthy initiatives at the event’s Post Run Party, to be held in the Kyle Lake athletic Center parking lot.
“The fun part about the event will definitely be our family tailgate,” said Scarborough. “We’ll have some food trucks out there, as well as opportunities for vendors to come out and celebrate with us and promote the partnership of Brook Hill and our local community. We want it to be a tail-gate and festival type of atmosphere and a fun day at Brook Hill.”
Vendors will need to be able to set up their booths by 8 a.m. on race day, and provide their own tent, tablecloth, table, and promotional items, as well as any games. There are a total of 15 spaces available for vendors at the event, with spacing being 12 foot-by-12 foot.
The cost for vendors at the Brook Hill Orange Rush Family Fun Run will be $100, payable by check or on the Brook Hill website.
After registering for the event online, runner packets will be available for pick-up between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Friday, April 21, or at the event the day of the race.
Parking will be located in the American Freedom Museum Parking Lot and along the grass towards the front of the entrance. Additional parking will be located at the Lower School where participants can then walk to the race site.
