Bullard Belles drill team announces new lineup

As the 2017-2018 school year begins at Bullard High School, one of the school’s most recognizable student organizations has announced its new lineup.

The award-winning Bullard Belles, directed by head director Shelly Johnston and assistant director Cecilee Walker, selected the members of the new line before school dismissed for summer break.

“I’m more excited about this year than I have been in a long time,” said Johnston. “That’s mainly because of the changes that we’ve made within our organization, which we believe will allow us to become better each and every year. We have a great group of girls on the team this year and we’re all excited about the new year.”

This year’s Bullard Belles officer corps, selected by Johnston to lead the organization, includes Captain Reagan Brasher and officers Molli Majors, Mariah Melton, and Cora Pudwill.

“We have a total of three officers that are seniors this year returning for this year with Reagan, Molli, and Cora, which is always good to have leaders return to the team,” said Johnston. “We also have a new officer, Mariah, who is a junior. These officers are the leaders of the team; I feel that they’re going to lead this organization with class very well.”

Additionally, other members of the Bullard Belles drill team include Livi Abercrombie, Emily Berry, Aubrey Brandon, Parker Glass, Jamie Hernandez, Jaiden Knowlton, Breanna Noriel, Tori Parham, April Parks, Sara Powell, Abbie Reeves, Ally Rhodes, Eslendi Salazar, Abby Smith, Madison Wise, Raelee Walker, Layni Welmaker, and Jenna Wittman.

Johnston said that although the organization is smaller in number than in previous years, the organization’s new “pre-drill team class” will help create a stronger drill team throughout the future of the team.

“We only have about 20 girls on the line this year, which is less than we had last year,” said Johnston. “The only reason for that is because I have created a new class, sort of a pre-drill team class, for incoming freshman and anyone who is interested in trying out for the drill team that hasn’t been a member before. This is the first year we don’t have any freshmen members on the line because they have to go through the class now. I believe the new class will only enhance the quality of the program. “I am someone who prefers quality over quantity, and I believe this new class will help us to accomplish our goal of being the best organization we can be.”

The Bullard Belles will perform during all Bullard High School pep rally events, during the halftime intermission of all Bullard Panther varsity football games, and during competition events throughout the year.
