Bullard girls golf finishes regular season, sends Calhoon to upcoming Regional tournament

The regular season is now complete for the Bullard Lady Panther varsity golf program. The season was full of success for the program, as the team competed at several events during the spring semester and claimed numerous awards.

The first event for the Bullard girls golf program in the 2018 calendar year was the Spring Hill Invitational Golf Tournament, held Monday, Feb. 5, at Wood Hollow Golf Club.

Bullard was able to card a strong performance at the first tournament of the year, finishing as the sixth place team with a team score of 417.

Leading the way on the course for the Lady Panthers was Caroline Calhoon, placing eighth individually with a score of 87.

Other members of the Bullard girls golf program competing at the Spring Hill Invitational Golf Tournament included Grace Baiza, with a score of 103; Katie Capps, with a score of 112; Grace Hall, with a score of 115; and Faith Baiza, with a score of 122.

The team also played the part of host for their own event this semester, as the Bullard Invitational Golf Tournament was held Wednesday, Feb. 14, at Cherokee Ranch Golf Club.

After taking to the fairways of the course, the Bullard team was able to card a team total score of 460 at their own tournament.

Scores from the Bullard Invitational Golf Tournament for the Lady Panther golf team included Calhoon, with a score of 98; Hall, with a score of 120; Capps, with a score of 121; Grace Baiza, with a score of 121; and Faith Baiza, with a score of 126.

Bullard was also represented by Summer Ward at the event, competing as a medalist, finishing with a score of 112.

The third event on the calendar for the Lady Panther golf team was the Diboll Invitational Golf Tournament, held Tuesday, Feb. 27, at Neches Pine Golf Course.

In the tournament, the Lady Panthers were able to swing their way to success, finishing as the third overall team. Scores from the tournament were unavailable at the time of press.

The Bullard girls golf team traveled the following week to compete against several teams at the Lindale Invitational Golf Tournament, held Tuesday, March 6, at Garden Valley Golf Club.

The Lady Panthers putted their way to a strong finish, completing the tournament with a team score of 478, as Grace Baiza led the way with the team-low score of 114.

Other members of the Bullard girls golf team competing at the event included Hall, with a score of 120; Faith Baiza, with a score of 122; Capps, with a score of 124; and Calloway Taylor, with a score of 126.

After taking time off for the annual Spring Break from school, the Lady Panther golf team pounced back into their schedule, taking on the tough field of team at the Canton Invitational Golf Tournament, held Tuesday, March 20, at Van Zandt Country Club.

Bullard’s drives and putts proved to be sure at the tournament event, as the team turned in a scorecard with the team’s 442 score.

Calhoon led the way for the Lady Panthers at the Canton Invitational Golf Tournament, finishing with a low score of 102.

Other members of the Bullard girls golf team at the event included Capps, with a score of 104; Hall, with a score of 117; Taylor, with a score of 119; and Grace Baiza, with a score of 119.

Playing as a medalist at the Canton Invitational Golf Tournament was Faith Baiza, finishing the event with a score of 116.

The final invitational event for the Lady Panther golf team in 2018 was the All Saints Invitational Golf Tournament, held Monday, March 26, at Cascades Country Club.

Bullard was able to finish amongst the top teams at the event, finishing with a team total score of 418, allowing the team to claim a third place team finish.

Once again, Calhoon swung the strongest club for the Lady Panthers at the event, finishing as the sixth place medalist with a score of 89.

Other members of the Lady Panther golf team at the All Saints event included Grace Baiza, with a score of 106; Hall, with a score of 111; Capps, with a score of 112; and Taylor, with a score of 118.

After finishing their invitational schedule, the Bullard Lady Panther golf team competed in the District 15-4A District Golf Tournament, held Wednesday and Thursday, April 4-5, at Wood Hollow Golf Course.

After returning from a hard day on the course to the clubhouse with their scorecard in hand, the Lady Panther golf team had finished the event as the third place team with a team total score of 873.

Calhoon was able to lead the team once more, finishing the District 15-4A District Golf Tournament with a two-day score of 200, allowing her to advance to the upcoming Class 4A Region II Regional Golf Tournament, scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, April 25 and 26, at Van Zandt Country Club.

Other members of the team competing at the District 15-4A District Golf Tournament included Capps, with a score of 216; Hall, with a score of 232; Grace Baiza, with a score of 236; and Faith Baiza, with a score of 227.

The Lady Panthers also had two golfers playing as individual medalists at the District event, as Lexi Price completed the tournament with a score of 231, while Taylor finished with a score of 234.
