The Bullard High School and Middle School Choir programs have been able to achieve a new high standard of excellence during the 2017-2018 school year, as a number of the singers earned top marks at recent All-Region Choir Auditions.

For the BHS choral program, the singers competed against a total of 188 choir students at the 2017 UIL Region 21 All-Region Choir competition, held Saturday, Oct. 7, at Jacksonville Middle School.

After the results of the competition were announced, a total of 28 students representing the BHS choir competed well enough to claim seats in the Region 21 All-Region Choir, out of 60 available seats in the choir, or 47 percent of the choir’s makeup.

Seniors in the BHS choral program earning seats in the Region 21 All-Region Choir included Will Brown (bass one), Kailey Consford (soprano two), Lawrence De Vera (tenor two), Dylan Price (tenor two), and Austin Taylor (bass two).

The program’s junior members named to the Region 21 All-Region Choir included Meghan Brems (soprano two), Kristen Clark (alto two), Emily Dean (alto two), Abby Franks (alto two), Patrick Granberry (tenor one), Joshua Luper (bass one), Lindsey Marsh (soprano two), Clara Smith (alto one), Hannah Stewart (alto two), and Kaitlin Woodard (soprano two).

A total of seven sophomore members of the BHS choir also received the All-Region Choir recognition, including Bailey Bower (soprano one), Haley Brems (alto one), Carissa Crocker (soprano one), Abigail Fyffe (alto one), Caleigh Graybill (soprano two), Hailey McCutcheon (alto two), and Isaac Sanders (bass two).

The BHS choir members selected for the All-Region Choir will take part next in the UIL Pre-Area Auditions, to be held Thursday, Nov. 16, at Hallsville High School.

Additionally, the BHS choral program will send six freshman singers to lend their voices to the All-Region Choir, including William Fleming (tenor one), Meadow Loe (alto one), Grace Nish (soprano one), Darrin Nguyen (tenor one), Jason Oliveaux (tenor two), and Karly Woodard (alto two).

Like their high school choir counterparts, the Bullard Middle School choral program also competed at the recent Region 21 Middle School All-Region Choir, held Saturday, Oct. 14, at Hallsville Junior High School.

A total of eight seventh grade singers were able to claim their seats in the All-Regional chorus, including MacKenzie Ballew (alto), Caleb Brooks (tenor), Jordan Cabiran (alto), Madison Creel (soprano), Caitlyn Malone (alto), Neveah Mueller (soprano), and Willow Hamilton (tenor).

The BMS choral program will also be represented in the All-Region Choir by a total of six eighth grade performers, including Haley Baker (soprano), Joshua Hawkins (tenor), Shelby McIntyre (soprano), Kaleigh Poe (alto), Da’Shawn Wheeler (tenor), and Sariah White (soprano).

“Our singers once again did a fabulous job at the All-Region Choir competition,” said Kerry Baham, Bullard ISD choral director. “Both choirs were able to claim the most chairs in their respective All-Region choirs, which bodes well for the future of Bullard ISD’s choral program.”

Bullard ISD’s choral programs are under the direction of head director Baham and assistant director Monica Hamilton.

The BHS and BMS singers named to the Region 21 All-Region Choirs will perform at a concert event, to be held Saturday, Nov. 11.
