Summer vacation is winding its way down, as students at Bullard Independent School District will return to classes for the start of the 2017-2018 school year in just 21 days.
However, before the bell rings on the first day of school, Bullard ISD administrators will be hard at work making sure everything is in place.
Bullard ISD Teachers:
For those interested in filling in as a substitute teacher at Bullard ISD schools during the 2017-2018 school year, the district will be hosting a substitute training event 8-11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, at the Bullard ISD Administration Building.
“Substitutes at Bullard ISD are required to go through a training event,” said Cheryl Hendrix, Bullard Director of Human Resources and Special Programs. “We, as a district, have to follow state and federal guidelines and compliances. They go through a training where they become familiar with the procedures at each campus, and can even specialize in working on a certain campus. We want the best, most qualified substitute teachers for our students.”
During the training event, Hendrix said the district will conduct individual interviews, as well as the training session, including covering the state and federal compliance training and the expectations of the district, campus, and teacher for substitute teachers.
“We want to first and foremost make sure that our students are safe with a substitute teacher because safety is our first priority at Bullard ISD,” said Hendrix. “Secondly, we want to make sure the educational process continues with a substitute teacher in the classroom. Substitutes are not babysitters; they’re responsible for the safety and the welfare of our students, so we need to know who they are, do background checks, and make sure they’re well trained, while making sure the educational instruction never stops.”
Additionally, Bullard ISD will welcome its new teachers for the 2017-2018 school year with the New Teacher Orientation event, scheduled for 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, at the Bullard ISD Administration Building,
All teachers at Bullard ISD will be marked “present” at the district Convocation event, slated for Aug. 21, to be held at Bullard High School.
