Bullard, Republic Services to host Citywide Cleanup and Bulk Trash Drop Off

The City of Bullard will host the annual Citywide Cleanup and Bulk Trash Drop Off event 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 15, in front of Bullard City Hall, located at 114 S. Phillips St.

The event is sponsored by Republic Services, the local waste management company. There is no limit on the amount of garbage residents can bring to the event. Event organizers encourage residents to clean out their basements, garages, yards, and homes, saying the cleanup is a great opportunity to dispose of bulky wastes and discards that are not routinely collected by weekly services.

“Every quarter, we get a chance to allow residents to throw away any excess waste from out of the ordinary day to day life,” said Chelci Amburgy, City of Bullard Public Relations Officer. “Plus, it gives us a chance to meet some new residents, and catch up with old friends, as well gives us a chance to help keep Bullard looking nice, and clean, and not bombarding our streets or trash company with trash on pick up days.”

Two large dumpsters will be placed in the City Hall parking lot and will be transported to the dump as needed. Large bulk items that will be accepted include but are not limited to furniture, water heaters, washing machines, dryers, and mattresses. The cleanup will not be able to accept tires batteries, liquids and chemicals, hazardous materials, propane bottles, and Freon.

Unlike in previous years, cleanup crews will not be going door-to-door to collect trash. Residents must bring their trash and large bulk items to the dumpsters at City Hall.

"The citywide cleanup is an exciting day," said Gene Keenon, manager of governmental affairs for Republic Services. "We are passionate about taking care of the environment and keeping Texas beautiful. The event is a great opportunity to get rid of eyesores and large unwanted items around their houses. It makes our town look better and gives the community a sense of pride."

To participate in the event by dropping off trash and bulk items, residents must show proof of residency through either a valid driver’s license or water bill.

Coinciding with the cleanup, Republic Services representatives will be serving hot dogs and sausage-on-a-stick from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

"We are hoping for a successful turnout for the cleanup," said Amburgy. "We want to keep the community of Bullard clean."

If residents are unable to attend the event, a special arrangement has been made for residents to take trash to the Jacksonville Landfill, located at 440 Heath Ln., in Jacksonville. Residents must take their water bill with them to prove Bullard residency.
