First dirt is turned on WISD bond package

The winds were stiff and the flags snapped to attention last week as Whitehouse ISD administration, board of trustees, architects and contractors gathered to turn the ceremonious shovel of dirt on Package One of the 2016 Bond Construction Project. Joining in were coaches and representative players from Wildcat baseball, Lady Cat softball and Wildcat tennis as well as several community members.

The $94.8 million bond approved by voters in November 2016 has been divided up into four packages. The first is for the construction of a sports complex that will be on the property with the high school. It will include a new baseball field, softball field and tennis courts. Also in this first package, a maintenance building will be constructed on the northwest side of the campus.

The Guaranteed Maximum Price approved by the trustees for the construction of the sports complex and the maintenance building was $7,514,488. This amount included the addition of the metal building structure and roof over each of the new batting cages for baseball and softball.
