The Brook Hill Guard and Lady Guard varsity track and field teams raced their way back into action last week, as the teams traveled to compete at the Alba Golden Relays, held Thursday, March 2, at Alba Golden High School.
Brook Hill Lady Guard:
The Brook Hill Lady Guard varsity track and field team performed well at the Alba Golden Relays, taking home the third place team finish with a total team score of 81, finishing higher in the rankings than several local teams, including Edgewood, Grand Saline, and Como-Pickton.
In the long jump contest, Ke’Airra Christopher secured a fifth place finish with a jump of 15’. Also competing for the Lady Guard in the event was Morgan Carpenter, placing sixth with a jump of 14’-10’’.
Diana Ramirez was the lone Lady Guard representative to place in the 3,200 meter run event, placing fifth with a time of 14:46.
Christopher provided a first place medal for the Lady Guard in the 400 meter dash, finishing atop the standings with a time of 1:01.85.
In the 1,600 meter run, Heather McLarry raced her way across the finish line in second place, finishing with a time of 6:03.63.
Carpenter was the strongest Lady Guard jumper in the triple jump competition at the alba Golden Relays, taking home a fourth place finish with a jump of 30’-2.25’’.
Claire Smith proved to be a strong competitor for the Lady Guard in the shot put contest, finishing in third place with a throw of 28’-6.25’’. KaNeccia Barnes and Sarah Nwosu also took part in the contest for the Lady Guard, finishing in fourth and fifth place with throws of 28’-6’’ and 27’-4.5’’, respectively.
In the 100 meter dash, Blessing Kima ran away with a fourth place finish for the Lady Guard, finishing with a time of 13.8. Kima also finished strong for the Lady Guard in the 200 meter dash, finishing in fifth place with a time of 29.15.
Grace Brasher was the jumper to beat in the high jump competition, taking home a first place metal for the Lady Guard with a jump of 5’-2’’.
In the 800 meter run, Smith blazed a trail around the track to claim a fourth place finish with a time of 2:42.61. Ramirez also competed for the Lady Guard in the contest, finishing in sixth place with a time of 2:46.43.
Brook Hill Guard:
The Brook Hill Guard varsity track and field team also competed against the tough competition at the Alba Golden Relays, finishing in seventh place with a team total score of 35 points.
In the long jump competition, Garrett Davis leaped his way to a sixth place finish for the team, finishing with a jump of 18’-5.5’’.
Davis was also a strong competitor for the Guard in the triple jump contest, finishing in third place with a jump of 39’-1’’. John Dixon also competed in the triple jump for the Guard, taking home sixth place with a jump of 36’-5.75’’.
In the shot put contest, Jordon McGowen was able to claim the first place finish for the Guard with a throw of 43’.
Dixon was a speedster for the Guard down the track in the 100 meter dash, finishing the event in fourth place with a time of 11.78.
In the high jump competition, Davis soared through the air to take home a second place finish for the Guard with a jump of 5’-8’’.
Jordan Day was the lone top finisher for the Guard in the discus contest, finishing in fourth place with a throw of 14’-6’’.
