Guard soccer brings home baker’s dozen All-District awards

A total of 13 athletes on the Brook Hill Guard varsity soccer team for the 2017-2018 season recently were presented with accolades marking their achievements on the field, as the TAPPS Division II District 3 district awards were announced.

On the First Team All-District listing, the Guard earned a total of six recognitions, including sophomore midfielder Winston Hebert, senior goalie Josh Jenkins, senior defender Sam Nechi, senior midfielder Mac Rose, sophomore defender Jake Shaffer,, and freshman forward Zakhar Zapolskyy.

Brook Hill also picked up numerous honors on the district’s Second Team All-District, with junior forward Pierre Bakouetila, junior forward Caleb Collins, junior forward Rush McLarry, junior defender Zack Nguyen, and senior forward Chan Woo Yang earning the accolades.

Finally, the team was credited with a total of two spots on the Honorable Mention listing for the district, including freshman midfielder Zach Reed and junior defender Brady Washburn.

“We had every member of the starting 11 win a district award and two reserves,” said David Collins, Brook Hill boys soccer coach. “I am really proud of our guys and the season that we had. These awards are very deserving and are a result of their hard work and commitment to our program.”

The Brook Hill Guard varsity soccer team ended its 2017-2018 campaign with an overall record of 9-4-1, 5-1 in district play. The team finished as the second seed in the district, but ultimately fell to the Brighter Horizon Stars in the first round of the playoffs, 2-0.
