Lady Guard comeback falls flat against Bishop Gorman

Resuming action in district play last week was the Brook Hill Lady Guard varsity basketball team, as the team traveled to take on the Bishop Gorman Lady Crusaders Friday, Feb. 2, at Bishop Gorman High School.

In the first quarter, both the Lady Guard and Lady Crusaders were able to put together solid offensive efforts to begin the game, as Bishop Gorman collected a total of 11 points, compared to the nine points amassed by the Lady Guard.

Brook Hill and Bishop Gorman continued to locate the basket well in the second quarter of play, with both teams matching up evenly with eight points each. At the halftime intermission, the Lady Crusaders held a slim 19-17 lead over the Lady guard as the teams headed for the locker rooms.

As the teams made their way back to the court for the second half of district basketball play, the Lady Guard and Lady Crusaders’ offensive production slowed, as both teams’ defensive units came out strong in the third quarter of play, with Bishop Gorman scoring a total of five points, while Brook hill netted two points.

In the fourth quarter, the contest remained close between Brook Hill and Bishop Gorman, as both teams hurried down the court in an attempt to add to their totals on the scoreboard.

At the end of the game, the home team Lady Crusaders proved to be victorious, as they outscored the Lady Guard, 7-6, in the final frame, en route to claiming the district victory, 31-25.

The Lady Guard’s efforts against the Lady Crusaders were led by Lexi Turner, collecting a total of six points in the district bout.

Other significant contributors for Brook Hill against Bishop Gorman included Kaitlynn Rhea, with five points; Ke’Airra Christopher, with four points; Alyssa Luker, with four points; Asia McGowen, with four points; and Grace Helmers, with two points.

With the loss to the Bishop Gorman Lady Crusaders, the Brook Hill Lady Guard varsity basketball team currently stands with an overall record of 6-13, 0-5 in district play.

Next game: Friday, Feb. 9 – Brook Hill at All Saints.
