The Bullard Lady Panther varsity softball team prowled their way back into district action last week, as the team loaded the bus and traveled to Longview for a district battle against the Spring Hill Lady Panthers Wednesday, April 11.
The visiting Bullard squad was able to light up the scoreboard first in the battle of the Lady Panthers, scoring a total of two runs in the top of the first frame.
In their half of the first inning, Spring Hill answered the early scoring opportunity by Bullard with their own offensive success in the first inning, hitting a grand slam and emptying the bases. Spring Hill also tacked on an additional run in the third inning to lead Bullard, 5-2.
Despite being down in the score, the Bullard team was not to be outdone, as Bullard cleared the bases with a grand slam of their own in the top of the fourth inning. Bullard also added two runs in the top of the sixth, as well as two more runs in the seventh, to take a commanding 10-5 lead over Spring Hill.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Spring Hill squad attempted a late comeback rally against Bullard, as Spring Hill’s bats damaged Bullard’s late lead, allowing Spring Hill to score four runs in the final frame. However, the comeback rally by Spring Hill was too little, too late, as Bullard claimed the district victory over Spring Hill, 10-9.
Ashlyn Seaton was the leader at the plate for Bullard in the district contest against Spring Hill, going 1-5, including a grand slam, with a total of four runs batted in.
Other significant contributors for Bullard against Spring Hill included Aspyn Grossman, going 1-3 with one RBI and two walks; Payton Hancock, going 2-3, including a double; Jolee Dixon, going 1-3 with one RBI; and Sydney Foster, going 0-4 with one RBI.
Seaton also collected the win for Bullard in the circle against Spring Hill, allowing 10 hits, nine runs, nine earned runs, and one home run, while striking out eight and walking four, in seven innings of work.

After claiming the district win against the Spring Hill Lady Panthers, the Bullard Lady Panther varsity softball team returned home to host a district game against the Kilgore Lady Bulldogs Thursday, April 13.
The Lady Panthers wasted no time in scoring runs in the battle against the Bulldogs, as three Bullard batters crossed home plate in the bottom of the first inning. Kilgore responded to the early scoring opportunity by Bullard with one run of their own in the top of the second inning
In the second inning of play, the Lady Panthers were able to double their lead thanks to their strong at-bats, scoring three more runs to lead the Lady Bulldogs, 6-1.
Bullard broke the contest wide open offensively in the bottom of the fourth inning, as the team was able to locate and collect with the ball for a total of six runs, as the Lady Panthers claimed the district victory over Kilgore, 12-1.
The Lady Panther softball sister duo of Jolee Dixon and Destinee Dixon led the Lady Panthers with their big bats and nearly identical performances, as Jolee Dixon went 2-3, including a triple, with two RBIs, while older sister Destinee Dixon went 2-3 with two RBIs.
Other significant contributors for the Lady Panthers against the Lady Bulldogs included Zoe Hancock, going 2-3 with one RBI; Payton Hancock, going 1-3, including a double; Kenzie Colston, going 1-2; and Ashlyn Seaton, going 0-3 with one RBI.
In the circle, Seaton was recognized as the winning pitcher for the Lady Panthers against the Lady Bulldogs, allowing four hits, one run, and one earned run, while striking out four and walking one, in five innings of work.
With a record of 2-0 in district play last week, the Bullard Lady Panther varsity softball team currently holds an overall record of 17-8, 7-1 in district play.
