Lady Panthers prowl into 2017 with matchup against Carthage, participation in Van tourney

The Bullard Lady Panther volleyball program is tuned up and ready to start the brand new 2017 campaign.

The team’s season officially starts this week after the Lady Panthers worked to sharpen their claws and strengthen their teeth during the annual two-a-day practices, as well as in scrimmages against the Tyler Grace Community Lady Cougars and the Bishop T.K. Gorman Lady Crusaders at the Tyler Lee Scrimmage last weekend.

To begin the season, the Lady Panthers will hit the road for their first contest of the year, traveling to battle against the Carthage Lady Bulldogs 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, in Carthage.

The first strong test of the year for the Lady Panther varsity volleyball team will come through the team’s participation in the Van Tournament Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 10-12, concluding the opening week of play.

After the Van Tournament, the Lady Panthers will remain on the road for a dual contest against the Canton Lady Eagles and the Scurry-Rosser Lady Wildcats Tuesday, Aug. 15 (time TBA). The team will finish up the week with a contest at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, against the Sabine Lady Cardinals at Sabine.

The Lady Panthers will return home to the friendly confines of Bullard High School’s Panther Gymnasium for the team’s non-district home-opening bout against the Van Lady Vandals 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22. Finishing up the week, the Lady Panthers will face off against several strong opponents at the Tyler Tournament Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 24-26, at Lee.

The following week, the Lady Panthers come back home to Panther Gym for a dual contest against the Mabank Lady Panthers and Alba Golden Lady Panthers beginning at 4:30 p.m.

As August transitions into September, the Lady Panthers will claw their way against the competition at the Brownsboro Tournament Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 31 – Sept. 2.

For the team’s lone contest outside of the UIL, the Lady Panthers will face off against the Tyler Grace Community Lady Cougars 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Grace, and close the week with a contest against the Troup Lady Tigers 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8 (location TBA).

The Lady Panthers will then battle against the team that defeated them in the opening round of the 2016 playoffs in the Rusk Lady Eagles 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, in Bullard. The team’s final matchup of the week will be on the road against the Emory Rains Lady Wildcats 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15.

The Lady Panthers will begin district play in mid-September with a matchup against the Longview Spring Hill Lady Panthers 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19 at Bullard, followed by an away game against the Gladewater Lady Bears 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22.

In the second week of district play, the Lady Panthers hit the road again for a district game against the Tyler Chapel Hill Lady Bulldogs 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, then return to the BHS gym for a home game 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29 against the Gilmer Lady Buckeyes.

To start October, the Lady Panthers will pounce into action with a district home game against the Kilgore Lady Bulldogs 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, and an away district game 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6.

The Lady Panthers’ seniors will be honored in early October, as the team will host the annual Senior Night contest against Gladewater Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. The team will end the week with a home game against Chapel Hill Friday, Oct. 13.

To wrap up the final week of the season, the Lady Panthers will hit the road for district road games 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17 at Gilmer and 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20 at Kilgore.

If necessary, the Lady Panthers will take part in a district playoff game Tuesday, Oct. 24 (time and location TBA).
