Lady Panthers use powerful bats to claim non-district wins over Huntington, Canton

The Bullard Lady Panther varsity softball team swung its way back into action last week, as the team hosted a non-district contest against the Huntington Lady Devils Tuesday, March 7, at the BHS Softball Field.

In the first inning, the Lady Devils and the Lady Panthers both wasted no time in putting runs on the scoreboard, as Huntington collected two runs in the top of the inning, while Bullard plated one run in their half of the opening frame.

The Lady Panthers broke out the big bats against the Lady Devils in the second inning, stringing together several key at-bats and scoring situations that allowed Bullard to add six runs to their score.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Lady Panthers once again prowled their way around their bases and continued their success at the plate against the Lady Devils, picking up seven additional runs.

The Lady Panthers were able to collect three runs in the bottom of fourth inning, while using their strong defensive efforts to limit the Lady Devils to just one additional run in the top of the fourth, as Bullard was able to claim the victory against Huntington, 17-3.

At the plate, the Lady Panthers were led by the strong swing of Jolee Dixon, turning in a 2-5 performance, including a triple, with five runs batted in.

Other significant contributors for the Lady Panthers against the Lady Devils included Ashlyn Seaton, going 3-3, including a double, with three RBIs; Sydney Foster, going 2-3, including a double and a home run, with three RBIs; Destinee Dixon, going 2-3, including a triple, with two RBIs; Reagan Bell, going 2-3 with two RBIs; Aspyn Grossman, going 1-3 with one RBI; Zoe Hancock, going 1-3; and Payton Hancock, going 0-1 with one RBI.

Seaton collected the win for the Lady Panthers in the circle against the Lady Devils, allowing seven hits, three runs, three earned runs, and one home run, while striking out five and walking two, in five innings of work.

For their second contest of the week, the Bullard Lady Panther varsity softball team returned once again to their home field to host a non-district matchup against the Canton Lady Eagles Friday, March 10.

After two scoreless innings to begin the contest, the Lady Panthers prowled their way onto the scoreboard against the Lady Eagles, scoring one run in the bottom of the third inning.

The Lady Panthers scratched and clawed at the Lady Eagles with their powerful bats during the bottom of the fifth inning, as the team put together a strong offensive performance with three runs.

In the sixth inning, the Lady Eagles attacked the Lady Panthers and attempted to soar back into contention in the contest, as Canton was able to collect two runs.

However, thanks to an additional security run in the bottom of the sixth, as well as their strong defensive play, the Lady Panthers stopped any possible comeback attempt by the Lady Eagles, as Bullard claimed the victory over Canton, 5-2.

Destinee Dixon’s bat led the prowl for the Lady Panthers in the win over the Lady Eagles, going 2-3 with three RBIs in the contest.

Other significant contributors for the Lady Panthers against the Lady Eagles included Seaton, going 1-3, including a triple, with one RBI; Grossman, going 1-4 with one RBI; and Payton Hancock, going 1-2.

Seaton’s arm provided the victory for the Lady Panthers in the circle against the Lady Eagles, allowing five hits, two runs, and one earned run, while striking out seven, in seven innings of work.

With a record of 2-0 last week, the Bullard Lady Panther varsity softball team currently stands with an overall record of 10-6 on the 2017 season.

Next week: Tuesday, March 14 – Bullard vs. Rusk; Friday, March 17 – Bullard at Chapel Hill (District-opening game).
