Ladycats defeat Nacogdoches, fall to Jacksonville in soccer


The Ladycats split matches with Nacogdoches and Jacksonville in District 17-5A soccer action last week. The results left Whitehouse with a 2-1 record in the loop standings.

Two more district matches are scheduled this week, including one at Ennis Whitehouse was slated to play Tuesday, Feb. 14. The Ladycats also will host Lindale at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17 (the junior varsity match will start at 5 p.m.). The team will honor seniors Friday, including two seniors on the junior varsity squad and four varsity seniors, including Hope Herring, Lyndsey Raabe, Alli Cardwell and Rachel Fulgam.

The Ladycats had little trouble with Nacogdoches. Strong defense resulted in a 10-0 shutout for Whitehouse. Raabe, Brooke Morris, Alicia Gurrusquieta, Allie Reed and Lauren Tipton all scored goals for the Ladycats. Alli Cardwell, Reed, Morris and Tipton also contributed assists.

Jacksonville was able to edge Whitehouse 3-2 in the varsity match. Raabe scored both of the Whitehouse goals and Chloe Towler recorded an assist.

The junior varsity team will participate in the district tournament at Lindale Thursday and Friday, Feb. 23 and 24.

The varsity team will host Corsicana to start the second round of district competition at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21. Whitehouse will play at Jacksonville Tuesday, Feb. 28, will host Nacogdoches Friday, March 3, and Ennis Tuesday, March 7, and will conclude the regular season at Lindale Friday, March 10.
