The Bullard Panther varsity golf team was back in action on the links last week, as the team participated in the Brook Hill Invitational Golf Tournament, held Monday, Feb. 6, at Emerald Bay Country Club in Bullard.
The Panthers were able to prowl their way to a second place finish as the event, collecting a team total score of 304, outperforming several other competing golf programs, including Brook Hill, Dallas Lutheran, and Troup.
Jaxson Beller, a 2016 UIL State golf qualifier, led the pack of Panther varsity golfers at the Brook Hill Invitational Golf Tournament, finishing with a team-low score of 72, allowing him to finish as the third place medalist individually.
Other members of the Panther varsity golf team competing at the Brook Hill Invitational Golf Tournament included Jake Searcy, with a score of 76 (T-5th place individual medalist); Tyler Huffman, with a score of 77; Jensen Smith, with a score of 79; and Hayes Esposito, with a score of 83.
“I was very proud of how our boys played yesterday in only their second tournament,” said Clay Richards, BHS golf head coach. “As golfers, we can always say we could have shot even better had we made a putt or two, but right now, shooting around 305 is right where we want to be. Hopefully by District and Regionals, we can be down in the 290s. Then, we would be hitting our peak potential right on time.”
The Bullard Panther varsity golf team will compete next at the Lindale Invitational Golf Tournament, to be held Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24-25, at Garden Valley Golf Club in Lindale.
