Cherokee County residents will have a chance to have their voices heard by their State Representative this week, as Texas House District 11 Representative Travis Clardy’s office announced his District Director, Jerri Jones, will be in attendance at two upcoming meetings.
According to a press release sent by Clardy’s office, Jones will answer questions, listen to concerns, and assist with matters involving state agencies and policies during the meetings, both scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 10.
The first meeting of the day with Jones representing Clardy will be held 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Singletary Memorial Library, located at 207 E 6th St. in Rusk, while the second meeting is slated for 1:30-3:30 p.m. inside the City Manager’s office of Jacksonville City Hall, located at 315 S. Ragsdale St. in Jacksonville.
In regards to the meeting, Clardy said he desires for his constituents to use his office as a resource to communicate their thoughts and issues.
“My office remains an important resource for our constituents and local government officials to help them communicate with our state agencies,” said Clardy, in the press release. “We are here to listen and find solutions to problems they may encounter. I encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity."
With the Texas legislator called back for a Special Session by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Clardy said education must remain a top issue.
“During my time representing House District 11 in the Texas House of Representatives, education is an issue that has dominated the legislative sessions,” said Clardy, in the press release. “If all, some, or none of the education bills filed this special session pass, how we prepare our children for the future will -- and must -- remain a focus of debate.”
First elected in 2012 and reelected in 2014, Travis Clardy serves as state representative for House District 11, which includes Cherokee, Nacogdoches, and Rusk counties. In the Texas House of Representatives, he serves on the following committees: Local and Consent Calendars as Vice Chair, Higher Education, and Energy Resources.
Recently, Clardy made his decision about running again for the House District 11 seat, as he announced his intentions to file for reelection in a press release dated Thursday, June 22.
Clardy's District Office is located at 202 East Pilar, Rm. 310, in Nacogdoches, and can be reached via phone at (936)560-3982 or via email at Travis.Clardy@house.state.tx.us.
