Malik Gilliam, Reece Clark and Ramiro Martinez won their respective classifications at the Chapel Hill Invitational powerlifting meet Thursday, Feb. 9. In the girls division, Katie York and Cheyenne Henson captured first in their class.
The host, Chapel Hill, won the team standings with 43 points, and Troup placed second with 33 points. Bullard was fourth with 20 points. Troup was third in the girls division with 26 points. Bullard won the team title with 42 points, and Winona was second with 26 points.
Gilliam had lifts of 650 pounds in the squat, 350 pounds in the bench and 475 pounds in the deadlift for a total of 1,475 pounds in the super heavyweight class. His total weight was the fourth best at the meet.
Clark, who lifts in the 220-pound class, had lifts of 585 in the squat, 340 in the bench and 520 in the deadlift for a total of 1,445 pounds. Clark’s deadlift was the second best lift in that category at the meet.
Martinez, who won the 181-pound class, had lifts of 475 in the squat, 315 in the bench and 535 in the deadlift for a total of 1,325 pounds. His deadlift was third best in the category at the meet.
For the Lady Tigers, Henson won the 165-pound division with lifts of 325 in the squat, 150 in the bench and 305 in the deadlift for a total of 780 pounds.
Also, York had lifts of 330 pounds in the squat, 150 pounds in the bench and 250 in the deadlift for a total of 730 pounds to win the 132-pound class.
Michael Zuniga was second in the 165-pound class. He finished with lifts of 365 in the squat, 255 in the bench and 385 in the deadlift for a total weight of 1,005 pounds.
Tristan Clark was third in the 181-pound class with lifts of 390 in the squat, 265 in the bench and 460 in the deadlift for a total of 1,115 pounds. Also, Caleb Smith placed third in the 132-pound class with lifts of 315 in the squat, 195 in the bench and 315 in the deadlift for a weight total of 825 pounds.
Josh Williams placed fifth in the 148-pound class with lifts of 350, 175 and 440 for a total of 965 pounds; David Allen was sixth in the 198-pound class with lifts of 470, 275 and 435 for a total of 1,180 pounds; and Mac Weaver had lifts of 430, 275 and 380 for a total of 1,085 for eighth place in the 198-pound class.
Jaycee Dennis placed second in the 198-pound class. She had lifts of 310 in the squat, 160 in the bench and 325 in the deadlift for a total weight of 795 pounds.
Bailee Casteel placed third in the 114-pound class with lifts of 230 in the squat, 100 in the bench and 230 in the deadlift for a total of 560 pounds. Rhea Pitts had lifts of 250 in the squat, 130 in the bench and 260 in the deadlift for a third place total of 640 pounds in the 148-pound class.
Maryssa Gilliam placed fifth in the 181-pound class with lifts of 260, 130 and 250 for a total of 640; Kaitlyn Hays was sixth in the 114-pound class with lifts of 205, 75, 175 for a total of 455; Addison Solomon was seventh in the 148-pound class with lifts of 215, 125 and 240 for a total of 580; and Andrea Tilley participated in the 181-pound class and had a lift of 330 in the squat but was unable to record a lift in the other two categories.
Bullard placed third behind Troup in the boys team standings with 20 points, followed by West Rusk with 19; Lindale, 19; Tyler Lee, 16; Frankston, 14; Spring Hill, 8; Brownsboro, 7; Winona, 3; and Van, 3. For the girls, the standings were Bullard, 42; Winona, 26; Troup, 26; Lindale, 21; Chapel Hill, 18; Brownsboro, 17; Tyler Lee, 17; Frankston, 9; West Rusk, 8; Van, 5; and Spring Hill, 2.
