What is HDR10?

HDR10 is the most widely used HDR format and is the baseline for other HDR standards. It is supported by most streaming services, gaming consoles, and televisions. HDR10 uses “static metadata”, which means that the same settings are applied to the entire video. It is also limited to a maximum color depth of 10-bits per channel and a peak brightness of 1000 nits.

What is HDR400?

HDR400 is a newer and more advanced HDR format compared to HDR10. It supports a higher color depth of 12 bits per channel and a peak brightness of 4000 nits. This means that HDR400 can display more colors and shades of colors than HDR10. It also supports “dynamic metadata”, which allows the picture to be optimized on a scene by scene basis.

Which One is Better?

In terms of image quality, HDR400 is superior to HDR10. However, HDR400 is not as widely supported as HDR10, so it may not be available on all TVs and streaming services. If you are looking for the highest quality image, then HDR400 is the way to go. However, if you don’t need the highest quality image, then HDR10 may be the better choice.
